The historic centre of Svitavy, which has been declared a town conservation area, is a picturesque place full of the charm of the past. It is dominated by a large reconstructed square with unique arcades, colourful town houses and a neo-Gothic town hall. A walk through the centre takes you from the Ottendorfer Library through the remains of the town fortifications in Hradební Street to the Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary on the west side, where you can climb to the tower lookout in summer.
